- Curly Coated Retriever -
History:
The Curly Coated Retriever is a recognized breed in the major registries, including the AKC and KC.
Physical:
The breed comes with a black (35) or liver (95) colored coat, and either dark brown eyes on black dogs or amber eyes on liver colored dogs. They are the tallest retriever breed.

- Flat Coated Retriever -
History:
Major registries that recognize the Flat Coated Retriever include the AKC and KC.
Physical:
The breed comes with a black (35) or liver (95) colored coat, and either dark brown eyes on black dogs or amber eyes on liver colored dogs. They are a longhaired breed.
Petz:
There are a few Flat Coated Retriever files, only one of which is currently featured on this site. The Cierra file is shown on the Premier Info page. Other accepted files for this breed include the BH file and the two Frome versions.
- Curly & Flat Coated Retrievers -
Genetics:
The dominant color is black (B) and the recessive is liver (b). In this breed, you are more likely to see black colored retrievers. To prove my point, I created the possible Punnett Squares for the coat color in this breed.
BB - homozygous black: They are black and will only produce black puppies.
Bb - heterzygous black: They are black, but they carry liver. If bred to another heterzygous black or a liver, they have a chance of both colors in a litter.
bb - homozygous liver: They are liver, and will produce only liver if bred to another liver. If bred to a black, the color of the puppies are going to be black, and if the other parent was Bb - there will be a chance for livers.
